Scope and content

Letters, documents, and offprints given to or purchased by the History of Science Collections from 1967-1978. Includes signed letter from John James Audubon to Robert Havell, typewritten letters to A.D. White and Simon Henry Gage, a letter from Georges Louis Leclerc de Buffon to the abbé de Launay; two letters from Schilling to Samuel Thomas von Soemmerring; a 1757 contract between James Grosett and John Newbery for the latter to manufacture various diet drinks; and documents concerning Angelo Viviani and letters to him.

Scope and content

Also, two letters to Guyton de Morveau, 1792, concerning the soap trade in Marseille. One is signed "Bernard," the other signed by the mayor and other municipal officials of Marseille. Guyton de Morveau apparently had been asked to adjudicate claims of impurities in the soap.
