Scope and content

Handwritten and typescript notes relating to the genealogical research of Dr. Amos Canfield. Includes copies of wills, probate records, deeds, and genealogies from Tompkins, Tioga, Chemung, and Orange Counties in New York, and Fairfield County, Connecticut. Families include Crossman, Edmund Jackson (of Boston, Mass.), Thomas Canfield, Foshay, and Knapp. Also, handwritten copy of the records of the Tioga County Medical Society, 1871-1887, and the Town of Candor, 1812-1874; and typescript listing of soldiers serving in the Revolutionary War, who received Military Tract land, lived or were buried in Tompkins County, compiled by Dora Pope Worden.

Biographical / Historical

Physician. Amos Canfield was born in Van Etten, N.Y., lived in New York City, and maintained a summer residence in Candor, N.Y. He received an M.D. from Cornell Medical College in 1902 and was an active member of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society.
