Scope and content

Items relating to the activities of James Tuke (Tooke) and family include a letter, 1828, from London, Ontario concerning land, prices, immigrants, and farming and other conditions in London; a series of letters, 1852, relating to the acquisition of land in Lima, Indiana; a letter, 1866, describing a Republican victory rally in Elmira; and other correspondence. Also, naturalization papers from James Tuke, 1840; an account book of labor, cloth, and seamstress accounts, Eaton, Madison County, 1830-1833; and an account book of drawing wood, rail-splitting, and general expenses, Sheridan, Chautauqua County, 1835-1837.
