Biographical / Historical

Professor of English, Cornell University. David Novarr (1918-1987) received a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1949, and joined the Department of English at Cornell in 1946 as an instructor. He was an authority on 17th century English literature and best known for his work on Ben Jonson and John Donne. His publications include THE MAKING OF WALTON'S LIVES, THE DISINTERRED MUSE, and THE LINES OF LIFE, as well as editing 17TH CENTURY ENGLISH PROSE. Novarr taught courses on 17th century prose, the metaphysical poets, and 20th century biography.
