Scope and content

Papers of Henry Valentine Pratt (Cornell University Class of 1890) include a letter (1885) from W.A. Randall of Rochester, advising him to join a college fraternity, letters (1885) from L.H. Barnum, School Commissioner at Bloods, Steuben County, New York, advising him against fraternities and introducing him to Professor John Lewis Morris at Cornell, where Pratt had won a Regents scholarship, and an essay (1887) written for a social science class on the Willard Asylum and other state charitable and penal institutions which Pratt had visited. Papers of Henry V. Pratt's son, Schuyler Brother Pratt (Cornell Class of 1925), include letters (1923) to his parents written while on a Glee Club tour of upstate New York and the Midwest, letters (1927-28) from college friends congratulating him upon his engagement and marriage, records (1918-26) of personal expenses, and his room contract (1923), as well as Wayland High School and Cornell theater, dance, banquet, Glee Club, and other programs (1916-25), photographs, psychology examination questions (1923), clippings, and other printed or mimeographed meterial. Papers of Hortense Louise Black (Cornell Class of 1924), later Mrs. Schuyler Pratt, include letters (1923) from a friend on a motorcycle tour of Europe and from her family, and a letter (1924) from Martha van Rensselaer concerning the the use of a room in Prudence Risley Hall as a resting or guest room during Farmers' Week. Also, one folder of legal correspondence [Henry Valentine Pratt], outgoing, 1913-1923.

Scope and content

Photographs of Hortense Black and a "Practice Baby" (New York State College of Home Economics, 1920s) and an issue of Human Ecology News in which the photos were reprinted, and a scrapbook of photographs, letter fragments, invitations, grade cards, programs, and other Cornelliana. Also, Cornell snapshots and a small notebook belonging to Valentine Brother Pratt (Class of 1932), 1927-1932; and six diaries of Valentine B. Pratt, 1987-1996.
