Scope and content

Statements of investment and ownership; descriptions of construction costs, materials, and operations; reports, specifications, and instructions; safety manuals; plans for proposed plants; and designs, blueprints, and photographs relating to the Semet-Solvay Company, Solvay Process Company, Tennessee Products Corporation, Indiana Harbor Company plants, Carbonifera de Sabinas Rosita, Mexico, and other by-product coke oven plants. Material relating to other industrial processes, and correspondence which includes that of European industrial scientists. Also, three commemorative medallions, 1906, depicting Ernest and Alfred Solvay, originators of the Solvay process of producing soda from salt, and Rowland Hazard and William Brown Cogswell, officers of the Semet-Solvay Company; data compiled by Semet-Solvay engineer Frederick W. Field; and Field family items.
