Scope and content
Correspondence, accounts, and miscellany of the Gates-Moore family of Savona, Steuben County, New York. Correspondence (1847-1910) concerns Lillian Gates' and Mrs. Katherine Moore's investments in Western lands, mortgages and loans, and includes information on tenancy and land sales in Michigan, North Dakota, Illinois, and Oklahoma; also, investments in the East Lynn Railroad and other eastern enterprises. Letters of James G. Moore, consultant engineer at the U.S. Naval Base, Key West, Florida, with the Florida Coast Line Company, and with the Piedmont Traction Company of Charlotte, North Carolina; also blueprints. Miscellaneous materials include a diary of a trip to New Orleans in February 1897; items relating to a trans-atlantic cruise in 1902; a general account book of Gates-Moore family expenditures, 1882-86; bills; bankbooks; clippings; pamphlets; broadsides; poetry; and calendars.
