Records of the takeover of Willard Straight Hall, Cornell University, by black students, April 19-20, 1969; includes a memorandum regarding damage done, photographs, and clippings; also includes national magazine clippings, Daily Sun coverage, and other paper ephemera from 1969. Includes copies of photographs and timeline of events from a 1989 exhibit on the takeover, a postcard from the 2005 production of "Learning Curve," a play based on the takeover, and March/April 2019 issue of the Cornell Alumni Magazine with cover story on Straight events. 50th anniversary items from 2019 including poster featuring Tom Jones.
Also includes a screenprinted Parent's Weekend poster from 1969 depicting a raised fist and McGraw Tower.
Also, minutes of meetings of the University Faculty, letters and other papers, and clippings.
Printed transcripts of two broadcast announcements made by President Perkins on April 21, 1969, one at 9:10 am, the other at noon the same day, when Perkins declared a state of emergency on campus. Also, a flyer from the Cornell chapter of the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society), opposing the flagrant possession of firearms on campus, but criticizing Perkins's response to events and urging the faculty to accept the demands of the African American students occupying the Straight.
