Scope and content

Typescripts of letters from aviator Winfield Hale to his wife, Idolane Crosby Hale, his mother, and others during the 37-day aerial tour through Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Ecuador that ended in his death when his plane crashed in Ecuador. Letters are concerned with aviation problems; also, they include descriptions of the countryside and people of Mexico, Central and South America. Also includes photocopies of clippings in English and Spanish (with translations) relating to his tour.
