Scope and content

Eight letters written by Ebenezer Ripley from Cooperstown to father-in-law Col. Samuel Flower, to brother-in-law Alfred Flower, both of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts and Francis Flower of Northampton. The letters concern some family news, and comments on "Politiks," including references to "Jefferson's request" (in relation to the birth of Ripley's twins); the (1807) Embargo; the "Albany Ox"; the "Irish Bull"; and Governor Daniel D. Tompkins.

Biographical / Historical

Ebenezer Ripley was born in Massachusetts and moved to Cooperstown, New York in the 1790s. In 1817 he moved to Lamb's Creek (near Mansfield), Pennsylvania.
