Scope and content

Letters to Vincent A. Kenyon, many concerning the 9th New York Heavy Artillery; documents concerning his Civil War service; family correspondence; cancelled checks; account books; clippings; photographs and badges. Also, correspondence of the Simeon Stoddard family, including letters to his wife, Ada Kenyon Stoddard, and other family members, discussing his illness and battles; family letters; account books; photographs; and a sewing kit made for Stoddard by his wife.

Biographical / Historical

Vincent A. Kenyon, of Moravia, Cayuga County, New York, served as adjutant in the 9th New York Heavy Artillery in the Civil War. He also served as a justice of the peace, and operated a tannery in Dresserville, New York. Kenyon's sister, Ada, married Simeon M. Stoddard, also of Moravia, who died in the Civil War while serving in the 9th New York Heavy Artillery.
