Biographical / Historical

Presbyterian minister, philosopher, and professor. George Conger was born in Genoa, New York and raised in Groton, New York. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and held degrees from Cornell University (A.B. Class of 1907) and Union Theological Seminary. He attended a number of universities in Europe. He wrote several books on philosophy and was a specialist in comparative religion. He was particularly interested in Eastern religions and cultures, and visited Asian countries many times. Conger joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 1920, and retired in 1952. After his retirement he taught at Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Calcutta, India.
