Cornell University Housing Research Center (later known as the Center for Housing and Environmental Studies) was new in 1952. Professor Glenn Beyer, professor of Housing and Design since 1947, was appointed Director of this center in which the School of Architecture, the College of Engineering, some units of the College of Agriculture, and the Departments of Housing and Design and Economics of the Household and Household Management in the College of Home Economics were all concerned. Two lustron houses were erected in the College of Home Economics, providing the central laboratory for interdisciplinary studies in the center, from which the Cornell Kitchen evolved.
