Mary Elizabeth Fessenden papers
Scope and content
Letters sent home while attending Cornell, two photograph albums, and three films, including material concerning Fessenden's involvement with Kappa Delta Sorority. Albums contain photos of many other women students, including Ellen Albertini Dow, and their activities, such as trips to Lake Erie and Taughannock, Spring Day and parade, sun bathing on the roof of Sage Hall, swimming, and dorm life. Films, many portions in rare color are from 1936-1939. Many of the individuals shown in the films are labeled and include professors. Film 1080 contains footage of campus, 1937 Spring Day including the polo match, crew races, Tee Fee Crane's house, intercollegiate ski meet at Middlebury Vermont, football against Syracuse at Syracuse in 1938, Goerge W. Cavanaugh, Kappa Alpha Theta house, John R. Johnson, Carl Stephenson, Russell C. Gibbs, Dean R. Louise Fitch, Mary Tillinghast, Wilder D. Bancroft, Arthur W. Browne, Ernest G. Merritt, the inauguration of Edmund Ezra Day and the faculty procession with a number of the faculty labeled, Allan Treman and Livingston Farrand can be seen, graduation, women playing soccer and field hockey, shots of Ithaca from South and West, the Ithaca air circus showing planes. Reel 1081 is mostly of Kappa Delta sorority activities and shots of the house at 109 Triphammer and pets. Visit to Taughannock park. Possibly events associated with a KD anniversary including a rally in Syracuse. Alumni painting the KD house. Reel 1082 includes scenes from two Cornell reunions 1938 and 1948, including shots of members of the Class of 1888, 1918, and 1928, more airplane shots, canoeing on Cayuga Lake inlet, boathouse, crew races against a team from California, Allegra Law appears several times, trip to a house that shows a Deyo Brothers milk truck. Other individuals include Nellie Gordon, Barbara Wilson, Jean Sherwood, Mary Tillinghast, Helen Park, Mary Fessenden, Julia Hardin Foote, Maida Hooks, Do Hendee, Judy Foote, Jo Biddle, Jessie Freeman, Hap Hilborn, Eunice Prytherch, Frank Zingerle.
