Scope and content
Diary (May 1777 to December 1779) of a soldier who enlisted in the 1st Company of the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment and who later served in the 9th and 5th Companies. The first section is concerned with the Sullivan Expedition (August to September 1779) through the Finger Lakes Region of New York. Wadleigh journeyed through the southern part of New England, eastern New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania from May 1777 to June 1779, and there are accounts of military engagements, including the Burgoyne Campaign of 1777, the fall of Fort Ticonderoga, and the Battle of Saratoga. Includes brief biographies of John Sullivan, Joseph Brant, and De Witt Clinton.
