The collection includes 34 flyers for Washington DC club venues, ca. 1979-1981, many advertising performances by the Slickee Boys, but also including national acts like the Cramps, XTC, Magazine, Lydia Lunch, Cheap Perfume, Shrapnel, and the Records. Also included is associated ephemera such as a Susan Marquis Slickee Boys business card, bumper stickers, Christmas cards signed by band members, a 1982 issue of "Slickzine", the Slickee Boys own fanzine, newsprint issues (1978 and 1982) featuring the Slickee Boys, a copy of issue number one of Infiltrator, March, 1979, a DC punk fanzine to which Marquis was a contributor.

Biographical / Historical

Susan Marquis moved from Europe to Washington DC in the mid 1970's. While working at various DC record shops, she began importing independent 7” singles from Europe, serving as a conduit between DC youth and scenes abroad. She also played in her own band, Citizen 23. Starting in 1978 she became the manager of one of DCs earliest punk bands, the Slickee Boys. Founded in 1976 the Slickee Boys released its first EP, Hot and Cool, that year, following up with a full-length album, Separated Vegetables, in 1977. The Slickees were influential in the emerging DC punk scene, inviting, for example, Minor Threat and Henry Rollins' earliest band to play some of their first shows as young teens.
