Letter from Dyer Foote to Ben Johnson

 Collection
Identifier: 8941

Content Description

Letter from Dyer Foote in Elmira, New York to Ben Johnson of Ithaca, New York, discussing the Whig election and mentioning Black voters. "I have seen our abolition friends and find that they are glad of the opportunity to do all they can. We have about eleven or twelve African voters they will be attended to and go right. Now if I was placed where you are I should try to do something in Madison County. Langdon says he has some friends there that he would write to if it was thought best. Our Whigs here say John. C. Clark stands the best chance among the Anti-Renters, if that is so perhaps they will go for the whole Whig ticket."
