Content Description

Collection of 43 European city guides in the form of glossy, illustrated, fold-out maps with listings and display ads for nightlife, shops, services, lodgings and attractions of interest to gay and lesbian tourists; some also include added editorial content. The publications trace development and transformation of geographies of tourism, retail, service and culture. The maps of the Marais in Paris, for instance, document the high point and decline of the district as a gayborhood. Represented in the collection are guides to 14 cities in nine countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.
