Scope and Contents

Series contains materials documenting William Hull Botsford’s personal life, including his family, education at Cornell, and death in the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Materials in this series include correspondence, postcards, news clippings, diaries, and a scrapbook compiled by Botsford’s family after his death. The diaries are for the calendar years 1909, 1910, and 1911, and focus on Botsford’s architecture work as well as personal travels. The scrapbook, compiled by Botsford’s family after his death, documents his life and work, with a focus on his architectural designs and his death in the Titanic disaster. Other items of note in this series are Botsford’s application for admission to the Cornell College of Architecture; his certificate for completion of a special course of study at the College; an album of postcards mailed by Botsford to his family during his final trip to Egypt, Turkey, and Europe; letters of condolence to Botsford’s family after his death; news clippings from 1912 about the Titanic sinking; and news clippings from the early 1960s commemorating the anniversary of the sinking. Artifacts include a Cornell wrestling mug, a small medallion with a Cornell pennant design, and a diamond-shaped Cornell pin.
