Subseries III.a. Message blanks

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Subseries contains blank message sheets produced by various telegraph companies. When messages were received in Morse code, the operators would decode and write (or, later, type) the message on the blank sheet, which was then given to a messenger for delivery to the intended recipient. The majority of the message blanks in this series were produced by Western Union. Other companies represented include Postal Telegraph; Baltimore and Ohio Telegraph Company; Fitchburg Railroad Telegraph; Mackay Radio and Telegraph, Inc.; and RCA. In addition to message blanks, the series contains one folder of blank Western Union Money Order forms.
