Scope and Contents

Subseries contains internal business material, advertising, promotional items, and special holiday greetings produced by and about Western Union from the late nineteenth century through the late twentieth century. Internal business materials present include instruction manuals, official forms, and employee newsletters. Notably, this series contains a volume of the Western Union Telegraph Co. Journal, spanning from April 1892 to October 1895, documenting the activities and expenses of offices across the United States. This series also contains advertising related to Western Union’s special greeting and Gift Order messages, introduced in the 1920s and 1930s, as well as a collection of presentation slides on the company’s Westar communication satellite program, launched in 1974.
