Series contains materials documenting the development of the telegraph, including early visual telegraph systems, the introduction of the electric telegraph, and the transatlantic cable. Also included are materials related to military usage of the telegraph in the United States and political actions involving the telegraph and telegraph companies in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
