Includes correspondence about the Civil War and politics of Washington, DC, including an incomplete letter describing the moment a petition for Black voting rights passed in Congress, as well as thoughts on President Lincoln and general sentiments towards slavery and formerly enslaved people (February 1865). Letters also include mention of the death of President Lincoln. Correspondents include Emma V. Brown, Sallie Holley, J.R. Johnson (regarding schools), Mary Reed, and former school students, among others.
