Irene on horseback, 1917

 File — Box: 10, Folder: 23

Scope and Contents

Two (including one in a mat jacket) are of Irene and her Saddlebred, “Lightnin,’”one dated fall of 1917. Irene had this horse while married to Robert Tremen in Ithaca and often showed him in regional horse shows. The other two are from Lake Forest, Illinois during the 1920s/early 30s where Irene rode hunters and jumpers. The one of her jumping was published in Town and Country in October, 1928. The other, in which she has her arm in a sling, shows her standing next to Noble B. Judah, Chicago lawyer and Ambassador to Cuba, 1927-29, before or after a fox hunt. Judah was a neighbor in Lake Forest, Illinois. In the early 1930s, Irene and Judah were both injured, he seriously, during a hunt chase.
