Scrapbook of contemporary copies of official War Department telegraph messages, from March 25 to May 17, 1865, documenting the end of the Civil War, Lee's surrender at Appomatox, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Many of the telegrams were directed to Major General Dix or to Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.
