Scope and content Letters to Finch from Ezra Cornell, Andrew Dickson White, and Timothy Dwight. White's letter, and Ezra Cornell's letter of 1868, accompanied friendly gifts of buttons and books that they sent to Finch. Dwight's letter (1905) contains news of classmates who have died recently, and comments on how leading universities such as Yale and Cornell have grown over the past 50 years. Twenty-eight scrapbooks of programs from Ithaca, New York theaters, including the Lyceum (1893-1900, 1902-1917, 1924-1925); Library Hall; Wilgus Hall; Town Hall; and Cascadilla Hall. Also, one scrapbook of Cornell Masque (1894-1925), sample tickets, papers relating to the sale of the Lyceum, newspaper clippings, and several glass slides of local theaters. Also, two copies of the thesis, "A Sketch of the Theatres of Ithaca, 1842-1942,", 1942, one with photographs affixed.

Reminiscences of Julia Mack Riley, entitled "Growing up in Cascadilla"; sections include "Through Cascadilla Windows With the Eyes of a Child," "Through Cascadilla Doors With the Feet of a Child," and "Northern Lights." Includes typescripts, some with revisions, and handwritten notes. Riley discusses Ithaca, New York and Cornell University, mainly between 1882-1893.

Entries in the first volume largely concern his duties at Cascadilla Place, which had lecture roooms and laboratories and was also a boarding house for students and faculty and President White. Woodward's worries ranged from bad drains to unpaid tuition, homesick students, and Goldwin Smith's need for a stenographer. The second volume is the "superintendant's cash account book."
